It does NOT have JM stamped on the barrel like my 39-M. It also does NOT have REP stamped on the right side of the barrel. The serial number is MR18240B on the top receiver tang. I know it's a latter built one.It's marked 39A on the barrel and has the serial # 3XX (a 3-digit number) under the lever. There is no letter prefix. The serial # is also on the upper half of the receiver on the inside . Everything looked good inside the receiver except that it was missing the lever detente spring. The screw was there - just no spring.

They have their own serial number sequence. Mine says No. 064xx on the top tang. With the large number made they were in the catalog for several years.

NOTE: Just a friendly warning; It's NEVER advisable to post a gun's Serial No. on the internet, as anyone could use this info to claim the gun is theirs.I have a copy of the 2018 Marlin 'Classic American Rifles' catalog and page 20 shows two Marlin 39As, a Custom Model 39A and a Custom Model 39A Case Color, both it seems from the "custom shop". Problem is, the 39-A Mountie did not come out until 1953 with a letter "K" prefix and a 24 inch barrel which was later changed to a 20 inch barrel.

I challenge anyone to produce a 39a, with the brass insert grip cap, that has a serial number prefix other than an "H". Also the white buttplate spacer wasn't added until 1951 either. There was an insert, in the 1952 catalog, dated 3/52 that said the program was stopped. I found my scan of it. It's hard to read, but you get the idea.
